The weather forecast last night said showers today, but we woke up to bright blue skies.
After breakfast Jackie took the girls around the Rocks Market, then we all walked over to the Opera House. It is of course more interesting from the outside than the inside.
Then we all bought an unlimited travel day rider, and took the first ferry going in the direction of Balmain (from a choice of 2). This took us under the harbour bridge and towards Darling Harbour.
Got off the ferry at Balmain East (the ferries are met by buses) so hopped on the bus towards Balmain - where we went around another market (Jim and Joseph extracted themselves and went to the playground opposite!)
We got some Turkish pancakes for lunch (we are really splashing out now - a departure from cheese sandwiches and hard boiled eggs that have been our staple over the last 8 weeks) which we ate in the park.
Then we walked through some of our old haunts - through Balmain and on to Rozelle - where we detoured past our old house at 59 Nelson Street. The area looks very smart now - full of coffee shops and sushi bars! We have made contact with our old flat mate Barry and arranged to meet him in Manly on Sunday morning which we are looking forward to.
From Rozelle we took another bus to the Glebe Point Market, where the kids got the sugar cane juice that Jim promised but failed to deliver in Byron Bay.
From Glebe Point we took a bus back to Circular Quay and jumped on the super fast Rivercat catamaran to Neutral Bay - also met by a bus that whizzed us up the street to 14 Harrison Street where we house sat over Christmas 1992. (Glad we took the bus up the hill - it was the best part of a mile - Jim remembered it as a 5 minute walk!).
Then walked into Neutral Bay centre - stopping to buy groceries for tea from the Woolworths that turned us down for a job! We walked along Neutral Bay main street trying to spot the cafe where Liz worked as a waitress - but we assume its changed hands and business use many times since so we could not pinpoint exactly where it was.
Then a bus back to the city and returned exhausted to the hostel.
Jim has a gig to go to (and nothing remotely trendy to wear!). Worse still the band won't come onto stage until what has generally been well past our adopted bedtimes!
We got our monies worth from our day pass! And better still the sun shone all day.
We only have one full day in Australia left!
