Litchfield to Katherine (via a panic) - 11 July

Up at 7am and dragged the kids out for a swim in the crystal clear water hole before breakfast. Most of the  backpackers scooted off before the park Ranger, but we were more leisurely having our breakfast - and off by 10am.

First stop a cascade of waterfalls where we could swim and have waterfall massages...

Saw another Wallaby and loads of huge termite mounds, including "tombstone" like magnetic termite mounds (built so they can avoid the heat of the sun).

Then out of Litchfield and towards Katherine. Stopped for petrol on the way. Here's the panic. They use different colour system of pumps and I started putting in unleaded instead of diesel. Fortunately only a very few litres and the mechanic at the garage said in all probability we would get away with it.

So we drove with some trepidation towards Katherine (a further 200km), but the vehicle has worked fine. Its very thirsty with fuel - so it will be filled up again tomorrow, so by them the 10 litres petrol in 80 litres of diesel should be totally dilute.

The annoying thing is that a sensor is malfunctioning in the car - every 2 minutes it rings an alarm bell to warn that a door is open - IT IS NOT - we have checked plenty of times!!!

So we called the company and they have arranged for a garage in Katherine to look at it tomorrow.

We had hoped to go canoeing in the gorge - which Jim and Liz did as backpackers - but this has been suspended because of too many crocodiles - so we have yet to decide exactly what we will do. Apparently the canoes only go out after the rangers are satisfied that there are no saltwater crocs. The rains were so large this year (recall the floods in Aus?) that they have not yet been certified saltwater croc free. We saw salties yesterday, so would not want to mess with 'em!

Weather again fantastic - 28 degrees, no humidity, no mossies to speak of (even by water) and very few flies.

Apologies for the spelling mistakes, we have paid a fortune for 30 mins internet, so need to rush this out, so kids can have their turn before the timer runs out......

Stayed at Big 4 Low Level Caravan Park, 20 Shadforth Road, Katherine, NT
