Top 5 beach and staicase to the moon (Hey kids, is this better than school!) - 18 July

Up early, and yet another hot, non humid day (about 32 degrees) so pretty perfect.

Fortunately some people had left the camp site so we booked in for a further two nights and the campsite sorted us out with an adjacent plot to the Shawcross family with whom we have been travelling and the kids are getting along famously.

We hit Cable Beach - which has been voted as one of the top 5 in world - 22 km of unbroken golden sand, and great surf. Plenty of sun cream, and into the sea , with Luke (13) teaching us how to ride the waves. Joseph a bit cautious, but the rest of us got into it, although sometimes the waves would "swamp you" and cause you to somersault under the power of the waves and back flow before being "dumped" somewhere near the beach with a mouthful of salt water.

We were last at Cable Beach with 5 other backpackers 20 years ago - nothing has changed here!

The it was dash back to the campsite- and just time for a swim in the fantastic campsite swimming pool (bigger that our local municipal pool at Holt Park) before a rapid tea, dash to the supermarket and off to Broome Town Beach  to see the "staircase to the moon"

we considered ourselves very fortunate to time our visit to Broome for this phenomena described in the guide as

This rare phenomenon will occur between March and October each year for only three nights in each month along the coast of North West region. The Staircase to the Moon occurs when the full moon rises over the exposed mudflats at a very low tide condition. It creates an amazing optical illusion of a staircase reaching up to the moon

It was a bit cloudy, but comes up very suddenly as the moon rises - the clouds making it look like a broken stairway - pretty fantastic, and too bed exhausted without the adults even pausing for a gin!

Am I on the best beach in the world?

Should we stay here or go back to the campervan to do some maths?
