Amazingly enough for Hopkinson's we were ready to go by 8am, so after filling up our thirsty vehicle with diesel we were off.
200km to Halls creek, countryside was interesting enough for us, and made more interesting by a HUGE kangaroo (at least 5ft tall) jumping in front of our car, causing me to brake sharply. Not phased, by an oncoming car the Kangaroo lolloped over the road and away into the bush.
If I had even half a penny for every termite mound we have seen, we would all by now be very rich, the landscape is absolutely covered in them - showing the colour of the earth (generally red because of the iron content), and different types of termite mounds as the predominate species changes.
We refilled with diesel at Hall Creek (don't ask what we are spending on diesel....), then managed to lose the convoy we were travelling with (a long story - and made more surreal by the fact that we passed nearby Wolf Creek meteorite site for those familiar with that story).
Eventually we met up again in time to set up a roadside camp in a lay by called Barundi Bridge. Majority of the riverbeds are now dry, but this river is still flowing and Luke managed to catch a small fish before the light failed.
A good meal, a few gins and then a very peaceful nights sleep at Barundi Bridge.
Road towards Kununarra
Road towards Broome
Lunch stop on the side of the road
Off road free camp set up
Fishing - one tiny catfish, not quite enough to feed 10 people!
Sunset over the Margaret River
Joseph and Harry relocated to eat their tea!
